The Corner
by Ifera R. Tagatia

The angle of the corner,
The sweet union of two walls,

A home for the child bound
In a house of horror and loss.

Sit down, little love.
Put together your puzzle pieces.

Make a family of four paper dolls
And pray with small fists entwined

Pray for a future where bliss is.

Rest your small back,
Black and blue,
Dressed in pink ribbons,

Your tiny fingers paint pictures
Of a little mouse in red dancing shoes.

Four walls are the painted cages,
Of a child with no choice--
Gilded or tasteless,

But two walls together make a corner,
Where the mouse with red shoes
Can dance on stages.

Ifera R. Tagatia
