Some think love can be measured by the amount of butterflies
by Puneet Dutt

—but for how long   will they survive
          the jar, before transforming?

Before placing their tarsomeres,
          thirsty of nectar,

to the lid we stabbed with holes
          then ask, with eyes alone:

is it time? is it time?
          This morning we awoke

in darkness and found each other,
          and what a miracle.

It’s not what has wings,
          but what makes it through

the narrow slits of tunnels.
I make you tea, and you say,

that’s good.
          It’s like that.

Slow and careful.
Like a turtle making its way into the sea.
