Monochrome Cinematic
by Jason Bentsman

In this striking collection of black and white photographs, artist Jason Bentsman pursues the elusive through a medium often grounded in the concrete. His work resists simple categorization, unfolding as an intuitive exploration rather than a rational analysis.

The selection presented here engages with the elemental (form, light, shadow, and time), but the photographs differ in their sensibilities: some offer layered, probing investigations of existence, while others focus more directly on formal concerns—chiaroscuro, composition, the interplay of light and shadow. Yet even the latter are quietly philosophical, inviting deeper contemplation beneath their visual precision.

They are at once symbolic and immediate, grounded and searching, capturing not just what is seen, but what is felt just beyond the edge of perception. Bentsman invites the viewer to discern where one sense gives way to the other—or whether the distinction even holds at all.
